TCN Urges Kaduna Residents to Evacuate High-Tension Power Line Areas
In a stern public warning, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has called on residents of Kaduna State living or working near high-tension power lines to evacuate those areas immediately.
The urgent plea came during a sensitization workshop organized in Kaduna, aimed at tackling the increasing dangers of illegal construction, vandalism, and unsafe human activity around Nigeria’s critical electrical infrastructure.
Engineer Nasir Mansur-Fada, TCN’s General Manager for the Kaduna Region, made it clear that the risks are not hypothetical.
“We are appealing to the public: stay away from high-voltage lines. These structures are not just dangerous they’re critical to our nation’s electricity.”
He emphasized that unauthorized encroachments and vandalism continue to threaten the safety and efficiency of power transmission, despite major investments to modernize and expand the network.
Technical experts at the event, including Simon Innocent (Manager of System Lines) and Yakubu Abdulrazaq (Assistant Manager of Electrical), outlined the real-world dangers:
-
Maintenance delays due to blocked access
-
Fatal electrocution hazards
-
Fire outbreaks from tampered lines
-
National disruptions in electricity supply
“These aren’t just isolated issues they compromise everyone’s access to power,” said Abdulrazaq.
TCN urged community members, security agencies, and local leaders to take proactive steps in:
-
Identifying and reporting illegal structures near power lines
-
Educating neighbors about the life-threatening risks
-
Cooperating with TCN field engineers during emergency repairs
“The power grid is only as strong as the people who protect it,” Mansur-Fada said.
