Zamfara Appoints Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as 16th Emir of Gusau
Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the 16th Emir of Gusau, following the death of his father and former Emir, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who passed away on July 25, 2025, after a decade on the throne.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, Secretary to the Zamfara State Government. He noted that the appointment was made in accordance with established laws and traditional customs, and was based on the recommendation of the Gusau Emirate Council’s kingmakers.
Before ascending the throne, Alhaji Abdulkadir held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau, and as the eldest son of the late Emir, his selection aligns with both royal lineage and customary expectations.
Governor Lawal, while confirming the appointment, congratulated the new Emir and encouraged him to prioritize development, peace, and unity in the emirate.
“I urge His Royal Highness to lead with wisdom and a deep commitment to the welfare of the people,” the governor stated.
With this appointment, Alhaji Abdulkadir begins a new chapter in the storied history of the Gusau Emirate, one of the most respected traditional institutions in northern Nigeria.
