Benue Monarch Visits Crisis-Hit Communities, Backs Forest Clearance to Tackle Insecurity
The Tor Sankera of Benue State, HRH Chief David Sev-Av, has visited the troubled communities of Uyam and Ugbaam in Ukum Local Government Area (LGA) as part of efforts to address the disturbing spike in killings, kidnappings, and general insecurity in the region.
The royal visit extended to affected villages along the axis, including Tse-Afati, Tse-Ubur, Tse-Usaar, Tse-Abeke, Tse-Anyunuku, Tse-Gyembe, and Tse-Hwembe.
During the visit, Chief Sev-Av urged residents to unite behind grassroots security initiatives, stating that “the preservation of lives and farmlands is a shared responsibility.”
He also commended the efforts of Mr. Dan Zuru, a local figure playing a critical role in community security coordination.
Also present at the meeting was Hon. Modi, Chairman of Ukum LGA, who approved the clearing of a dense forest behind Tse-Ubur and Tse-Anyunuku. The area has long been suspected as a hideout for criminal elements wreaking havoc across Uyam, Ugbaam, Borikyo, and Shitile.
Community youth leader Bobo Ajaga described the forest as “a major operational base for criminals,” calling for urgent and decisive government action.
Chief Sev-Av didn’t mince words when addressing local youths allegedly collaborating with criminal networks. He issued a strong warning against aiding or participating in criminal activity, urging them to change course immediately.
The monarch also encouraged displaced villagers to return home and resume farming, assuring them that local security would be strengthened.
The gathering was attended by local leaders, including Torsaa Orbunde, Mpuuga Ubur, and other elders and youth representatives.
