Abia State Launches Digital Revalidation of All Private Schools Starting June 16
In a major push toward transparency and improved education standards, the Abia State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has mandated that all private schools, approved and unapproved, must revalidate their operations via a newly launched digital education portal beginning June 16.
This was announced by Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, who emphasized that the initiative is not a crackdown, but rather an inclusive reform effort.
“This exercise is not about closing schools; it is about lifting every school in Abia State to meet minimum acceptable standards,” Ubochi stated during a press briefing in Umuahia.
Under the new system, called the Abia State Basic and Secondary Education Management Information System (ASBS-EMIS), all private schools, whether approved, illegal, or unregistered, must enter their details into the centralized platform.
Key Features of the Revalidation System
-
Digital registration for all private schools
-
Unique ID numbers for students and teachers
-
Access credentials for each school
-
Free registration – No payment required
-
Regulatory tracking of infrastructure, teacher-student ratios, and more.
Ubochi stressed that the goal is to bring all schools into the regulatory net, including those previously operating without formal approval. Rather than penalize them, the state will support them in reaching acceptable standards over time.
“The initiative is inclusive, extending to schools currently operating without approval—not to shut them down but to help them meet acceptable standards,” he said.
He also warned against extortion and urged school owners to report any officials demanding payment, reiterating that the process is entirely free.
With this digital overhaul, Abia State aims to:
-
Improve quality control in private education
-
Ensure better recordkeeping
-
Facilitate data-driven educational planning
-
Encourage fair and transparent school operations
By integrating every school, regardless of status, into one digital platform, the government hopes to boost accountability and inclusiveness in the state’s educational system.
