Sanwo-Olu Commissions New Blue Line Trains, Promises Cheaper, Faster Commute for Lagosians

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially handed over three new Blue Line train sets to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), marking a major milestone in the city’s growing urban rail infrastructure.

The train sets, recently imported by the Lagos State Government, are expected to significantly improve public transportation in Nigeria’s busiest metropolis, easing congestion and reducing travel times across key routes.

“The Blue Line represents a major leap forward in our drive to modernize Lagos’ transport network,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said during an inspection tour of the Blue Line terminus in Iganmu.

The governor applauded President Bola Tinubu for his support in advancing the rail project, highlighting how collaboration between the federal and state governments has enabled the delivery of transformative infrastructure to the people of Lagos.

“This is proof that when the federal and state governments work together, we can achieve great things for Nigerians,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to keeping rail fares affordable through government subsidies, ensuring that Lagosians from all walks of life can benefit from the new system.

“We are determined to keep it affordable for every Lagosian,” he emphasized.

He also stated that the Blue Line would ease traffic pressure, particularly on major routes like the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, while promoting a more sustainable and inclusive urban transportation system.
