Obasanjo Urges Governors to Prioritize Infrastructure for Economic Growth
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on state governors across the country to invest more in infrastructure, describing it as the bedrock of economic development and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
Obasanjo made the call on Tuesday during the commissioning of the newly reconstructed Zanna Road in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) of Gusau, the state capital. The project is one of several being undertaken by Governor Dauda Lawal as he marks his second year in office.
Speaking at the event, Obasanjo emphasized that roads, water, healthcare, security, and communication systems are critical components of sustainable development. He praised the Zamfara State government for what he called deliberate and impactful governance.
“What I’ve witnessed here points to a deliberate commitment to improving public infrastructure for the good of the people,” Obasanjo said.
“I encourage other state leaders to take a similar approach that directly impacts their citizens.”
In his remarks, Governor Dauda Lawal said the Zanna Road reconstruction is part of a broader plan to revamp decaying infrastructure and restore public trust in government. He noted that his administration is focused on projects that improve citizens' daily lives.
“Our aim is to bridge the development gap and bring back the people’s confidence in leadership through action, not promises,” the governor said.
