Nigeria Set to Launch “Smart Police Stations” in Nationwide Digital Security Push
In a bold move to modernize Nigeria’s security infrastructure, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Galaxy Backbone (GBB) to establish smart police stations across the country.
The agreement was sealed on Friday in Abuja, signaling a new era of technology-driven policing aimed at tackling Nigeria’s security and digital development challenges.
Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, called the partnership a milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey.
“Our partnership with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund will support the establishment of smart police stations across the country powered by GBB’s fibre-optic network, eLTE, and cloud infrastructure,” he stated.
The smart stations will feature:
-
Real-time surveillance
-
Electronic case management systems (ECMS)
-
Artificial intelligence tools
-
Secure cloud-based data systems
-
Robust cybersecurity components
Adeyanju emphasized that these innovations would lead to faster crime reporting, instant coordination, and greater transparency, restoring public trust in law enforcement.
Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed Sheidu, highlighted the urgent need to bring the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) up to global standards.
“This initiative with GBB is historic. It will change the narrative in Nigeria’s security sector,” he said.
He noted that one of the biggest problems facing the police force is poor data collection and analysis, which the smart stations aim to resolve.
“It only makes sense to strategically collaborate with GBB to achieve the digitalisation agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Sheidu added.
The two organizations stressed that the collaboration serves as a blueprint for how government institutions can unite to solve national issues through technological innovation.
The deployment of smart stations is expected to:
-
Enhance law enforcement responsiveness
-
Improve criminal database integration
-
Enable digital case management
-
Strengthen national surveillance and security coordination
The Nigeria Police Trust Fund and Galaxy Backbone have pledged continued cooperation as the first phase of smart station rollouts begins.
