Presidency Slams Senator Ndume Over “Reckless” Comments, Dismisses Cabal Claims in Tinubu’s Government
A heated political clash has erupted between the Presidency and Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume of Borno South, following what the Presidential Villa described as a “reckless” television outburst by the senator.
Ndume, a former Senate Chief Whip and senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleged that a cabal of kleptocrats and kakistocrats had hijacked President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The claims have drawn sharp criticism from Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Responding swiftly, Onanuga dismissed Ndume’s statements as “baseless,” “sensational,” and lacking any factual foundation.
“His allegation that kleptocrats and kakistocrats dominate the government is just too sweeping. And he made it without providing a scintilla of proof,” Onanuga said.
The Presidency further questioned whether Ndume even understands the terms he used.
“Kakistocrats? Does he know the word’s meaning, or does he just like bandying terms?” Onanuga asked pointedly.
Onanuga described Ndume as a “lone-wolf opposition” figure within the ruling party, often making controversial claims with little evidence. He referenced past instances where Ndume allegedly made false accusations, including a claim about former Army Chief General Buratai being ambushed, to underscore a pattern of misinformation.
“A ranking Senator making reckless statements on TV cannot command the respect of any right-thinking person,” Onanuga stated.
In a strong defense of the current administration, Onanuga highlighted the competence of President Tinubu’s aides, noting that many were accomplished professionals before joining the government.
“They are doing a damn good job, reengineering the country’s economy to ensure it is put on a solid foundation for sustainable growth,” he added.
