Nigeria Mourns Business Icon Alhaji Aminu Dantata, A Nation-Builder Remembered
Nigeria is mourning the loss of one of its most revered business moguls and philanthropists, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who passed away peacefully at the age of 94 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday morning.
Among the many tributes pouring in, former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki expressed deep sorrow over the passing of a man he described as a "quiet nation-builder" and a symbol of integrity.
“His passing marks the end of an era defined by principled leadership and lifelong dedication to service,” Saraki said in a heartfelt statement.
Saraki hailed the late Dantata as “a man of extraordinary substance”, who through business, philanthropy, and moral example helped shape modern Nigeria.
“Through enterprise, he helped build Nigeria’s economic foundation. Through philanthropy, he impacted countless lives. And through his character, he earned the respect of a nation,” Saraki added.
Calling Dantata a father figure, Saraki shared how the elder statesman’s wisdom, patience, and quiet strength had a profound impact on his own leadership philosophy.
“His integrity and calm wisdom shaped my outlook on leadership and service. I am personally devastated by his passing,” he said.
Dantata was widely recognized for his decades-long influence in commerce and community service, especially in Northern Nigeria. Despite his immense wealth and influence, he remained unassuming and deeply rooted in faith and service.
Saraki extended his condolences to the Dantata family, the people and government of Kano State, and the entire nation.
“May Almighty Allah (SWT), in His infinite mercy, grant Alhaji Aminu Dantata Aljannah Firdaus. Ameen.”
