Tinubu Condemns Konduga Suicide Bombing, Orders Tighter Security on Boko Haram Remnants
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the deadly suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State, attributing the attack to remnant factions of Boko Haram targeting civilians as a diversionary tactic.
In a statement issued Sunday by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu called the bombing “cowardly” and directed security forces to intensify operations aimed at completely eradicating insurgent groups.
“These surviving Boko Haram elements are striking soft targets to stay relevant. We must not allow them,” the president emphasized.
President Tinubu extended his sympathies to the families of the victims, as well as to the Borno State Government. He also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate relief and support to survivors.
The president also reacted to a separate incident in Kano, where an explosion at a scrap metal factory affected 15 people, leaving five dead.
He expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and stressed the importance of occupational safety protocols, urging local industries to adhere to safety standards to prevent future tragedies.
“Occupational hazards must be proactively managed. Safety cannot be an afterthought,” he added.
