The Benue State Office of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) has strongly condemned the recent attack on Yelwata village in Guma Local Government Area, describing it as "barbaric, archaic, reprehensible, worrisome, and unacceptable."
The attack, which left numerous residents dead and properties destroyed, has sparked widespread outrage. According to the PCC, the assault represents a direct attempt to undermine the sanctity of human life and public peace in the region.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Rt. Hon. Chief James Ogaba Oche, the Honourable Federal Commissioner for the PCC in Benue, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event.
“The Benue State Office of the Public Complaints Commission wishes to condemn in unequivocal terms, the recent attack on the people of Yelwata Community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State which led to the indescribable killing of innocent Nigerians and destruction of property,” the statement read.
The commission extended heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and the Benue State Government.
The PCC also urged the federal, state, and local governments to intensify security efforts to prevent future attacks.
“The Benue PCC respectfully calls on government at all levels to intensify security efforts to forestall a possible reoccurrence and to further guarantee the protection of the lives and properties of the people through credible intelligence gathering and possible preventive measures.”
The statement emphasized that without urgent and coordinated action, such tragedies may continue to devastate communities and deepen the state's insecurity crisis.
