Bomb Threat Forces Air India Flight to Make Emergency Landing in Phuket
An Air India flight en route to New Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing in Phuket on Friday, shortly after takeoff, due to a bomb threat, according to Thailand’s airport authorities.
The incident involved an Airbus A320 that had just departed from Phuket International Airport before the pilot received a message suggesting an explosive device was on board.
The flight’s captain quickly alerted air traffic control, triggering emergency protocols.
“The pilot notified ATC immediately after receiving the warning,” read a statement published on the official Facebook page of Phuket Airports.
Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 showed the plane performed a U-turn over the Andaman Sea, circling the area several times before safely returning to Phuket.
All passengers and crew disembarked safely, and the aircraft is now undergoing thorough security checks. Thai authorities have launched an investigation into the source of the bomb threat, but as of now, no explosives have been found.
The emergency landing occurred just a day after a tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, India, where another aircraft also bound for London crashed shortly after takeoff, claiming at least 265 lives, including passengers and ground crew.
The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns over Air India’s recent flight safety record, although aviation experts caution against drawing conclusions without full investigations.
