Kaduna State Launches Special Task Force to Tackle Urban Crime and Drug Abuse

In a bold move to stem the tide of urban crime and drug-related offenses, the Kaduna State Government has launched a Special Joint Task Force to address rising insecurity within the capital city and its surroundings.

This new force comes in response to a surge in gangsterism, violent attacks, and rampant phone snatching that has left many residents feeling unsafe.

“Kaduna City Will Not Become a Haven for Gangsters” — Deputy Governor

At the official launch of the task force, Kaduna Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, speaking on behalf of Governor Uba Sani, declared the government’s zero tolerance for crime.

“Kaduna City will not become a haven for gangsters,” she said firmly during the ceremony at the Council Chambers, Kashim Ibrahim House.

Dr. Balarabe emphasized that while the current state of affairs is troubling, it can be reversed through diligent collaboration between security agencies and community members.

The Special Joint Task Force is a multi-agency coalition led by the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs. It includes operatives from:

  • Nigerian Police Force (lead agency)

  • Department of State Services (DSS)

  • Nigerian Army

  • Nigerian Air Force

  • Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)

  • National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)

  • Nigerian Customs Service

  • Nigerian Immigration Service

  • Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA)

  • Operation Fushin KADA

This coordinated force aims to curb the rise in urban criminal activity, particularly in Kaduna metropolis, while continuing the fight against rural banditry.

According to Dr. Balarabe, while significant progress has been made in rural security, urban crime is surging, largely due to:

  • Socioeconomic pressures

  • Rapid urbanization

  • Drug abuse and youth unemployment

She emphasized the need for a holistic strategy that combines law enforcement, drug control, and community engagement.

“The situation is regrettable, but surmountable,” she assured, calling on all citizens to work with security operatives.
