Authorities Launch Investigation Over The Death Of an Israeli Tourist In an Abuja Hotel

A 73-year-old Israeli tourist, Avi Warshaviak, has died after falling ill at a hotel in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The incident happened on Saturday, July 5, at the Corinthia Villa Hotel, located in the Garki area of the city. Warshaviak was staying there with his wife when he reportedly experienced a sudden medical emergency.

What Happened

  • At 9:51 a.m., Warshaviak was rushed to Asokoro General Hospital

  • Medical personnel tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival

  • The hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Okorie Emmanuel, filed a report with the Garki Divisional Police Headquarters at 11:23 a.m.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared the incident on X (formerly Twitter) the following day, citing police sources and initial reports from the hotel.

Officers have since visited both the hotel and the hospital. They documented the scene and moved Warshaviak’s body to the hospital mortuary, pending an autopsy.

According to police sources, Nigerian authorities are actively working to contact the Israeli Embassy in Abuja to initiate the necessary consular procedures.
