NEYGA Warns Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti: "Lies in Politics Will Have Consequences"
The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has issued a stern warning to suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, insisting that unproven allegations and political falsehoods will not go unpunished.
According to a statement by NEYGA spokesperson Ibrahim Dan-Musa, the embattled Kogi Central lawmaker must either prove her claims of slander or face legal consequences for spreading what he described as unsubstantiated accusations.
“A senator who peddles lies must face the consequences,” said Dan-Musa. “She cannot wake up one day, point fingers at high-ranking officials, and expect to walk away unscathed when challenged to prove her claims.”
Dan-Musa strongly condemned Akpoti’s accusations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in which she claimed she was sexually harassed and subsequently denied certain privileges for refusing his advances.
He pointed out that no solid evidence has been presented to back her claims, which ultimately led to her six-month suspension from the Senate.
Dan-Musa also took aim at former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili for defending Akpoti, labeling her support as “hypocritical.”
“Oby Ezekwesili is wrong to defend a senator who’s been suspended for failing to back her serious claims with proof,” he added. “Nobody is above the law not even those who claim to speak for justice.”
Dan-Musa emphasized that the matter has drawn global attention, with observers from the United Nations and Fox News reportedly monitoring the case to see if Nigeria will stand for truth or tolerate defamation.
“The world is watching whether Nigeria will tolerate unsubstantiated defamation or uphold the rule of law,” he said.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio is currently in court, pursuing legal redress over Akpoti’s allegations. The case is expected to set a precedent for how slander and misconduct accusations are handled at the highest levels of government.
