Bandits Burn Seven Villages Near Gusau as Attacks Escalate in Zamfara and Katsina
At least seven communities near Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, have been set ablaze by armed robbers since Saturday, according to a report by a security analyst known as Bakatsine on X (formerly Twitter). The violence adds to the ongoing wave of insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest.
The affected villages include Bargaja, Makera, Kahuta, Hayin Mai Cibi, Yar Geba, Hayin Yakubu, and Unguwar Mata. Bakatsine noted that new attacks were also recorded in the Gusau Local Government Area on Sunday night, particularly around Mada village.
He stated, “Since Saturday, bandits have burnt seven villages near Gusau, Zamfara: Bargaja, Makera, Kahuta, Hayin Mai Cibi, Yar Geba, Hayin Yakubu and Unguwar Mata.”
In a related development, a major road in Katsina State, which borders Zamfara, has been shut down due to escalating bandit activity. The affected route stretches from Mararrabar Maigora through Maigora, Sabon Layi Galadima, Fankama, and Faskari, ending at Ƴankara.
Bakatsine reported that on Saturday alone, four individuals were shot, and several others abducted along the route.
“The road from Mararrabar Maigora through Maigora, Sabon Layi Galadima, Fankama & Faskari to Ƴankara has been shut due to rising bandit attacks. Yesterday alone, they shot 4 people and abducted several others,” he wrote.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from law enforcement or government authorities concerning the attacks in either Zamfara or Katsina.
