Pastor Paul Adefarasin Denies Viral Gun Incident: “I Was Shocked and Hurt”

Paul Adefarasin, senior pastor of the House on the Rock Church, has responded to a viral video allegedly showing him brandishing a firearm, describing the clip as false, hurtful, and a product of clickbait culture.

Addressing his Lagos congregation during Sunday service, Adefarasin expressed emotional distress over the video’s circulation.

“Several persons called me. I was shocked. I was hurt. I’m human,” he said.
“What we have had to witness was clickbaiters just looking for money. I probably wasn’t even their target; their target was to make more money.”

The respected clergyman firmly denied the accusation that he threatened anyone with a weapon.

“I was falsely accused of pointing a firearm at an aggressive content creator who came within personal distance,” he clarified.
“I do not have a pistol license. I do not carry a firearm. And I pointed no firearm at anybody.”

While he didn’t share evidence to disprove the video, Adefarasin emphasized that the church will not engage with hate speech or slander, citing Romans 12:19:

“Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

This incident sheds light on the growing trend of viral misinformation and the pressures on public figures, particularly religious leaders, to respond to digitally manipulated or misleading content. Adefarasin's statement reflects both the emotional toll and the reputational risks that accompany such controversies in the digital age.
