Abuja Youths Forum Slams Insecurity After Arise TV Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu’s Killing
The Abuja Youths Forum has decried the rising wave of insecurity in the nation’s capital following the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, an anchor with Arise TV, who was killed during an armed robbery at her Katampe residence on September 29, 2025.

The group described her murder as both a “national shame” and a reflection of the appalling security situation in Abuja.
In a statement signed by its president, Ayuba Danladi, the Forum called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently direct FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to address the deteriorating security environment or step aside.
“It is shocking and unacceptable that while criminal elements have laid siege to Abuja, terrorising residents, the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has continued to chase clout with eye-service infrastructural projects.
Is it dead people that will make use of those roads, bridges, and city beautification projects he grandstands about daily?”
The Forum warned that if robbers could successfully target an upper-middle-class neighborhood like Katampe, residents in Abuja’s suburbs faced even greater risks.
The youth group accused the FCT administration of leadership failure, stressing that insecurity had turned Abuja into a “playground for criminals”.
They demanded that President Tinubu set a clear deadline for Minister Wike to restore safety and security in the capital.
“Abuja cannot continue to be a playground for criminals while the minister parades half-completed projects as achievements,” the statement read.
The group further urged security agencies to ensure the swift capture and prosecution of Maduagwu’s killers.
They extended condolences to her family and the Arise News team, noting that her death underscores the urgent need for decisive action to protect lives.
