Tinubu May Prioritize G20 Nations in Ambassadorial Appointments

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may prioritize appointing ambassadors to G20 countries, according to Presidency spokesperson Dr. Daniel Bwala.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Bwala revealed that delays in finalizing the ambassadorial list were tied to funding challenges affecting Nigeria’s foreign missions.

Bwala explained that financial difficulties at embassies had slowed down the release of the ambassadorial list.

“Mr. President has acknowledged the delays in the ambassadorial list, primarily due to funding constraints affecting our foreign embassies, an issue I am diligently addressing,” he wrote.

Despite concerns over the delay, Bwala suggested that the President could strategically prioritize G20 nations, citing their critical economic partnerships with Nigeria.

“Despite the surrounding clamor, the President can strategically prioritize appointments to G20 nations, recognizing their critical economic partnerships with us. The ambassadorial list will be resolved promptly, ensuring effective representation,” he added.

Nigeria maintains strong trade, investment, and diplomatic ties with G20 countries, making effective representation in those nations crucial for:

  • Economic diplomacy

  • Foreign direct investment (FDI) opportunities

  • Strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships
