FRSC Warns Drivers: Slow Down This Ember Season
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command, has urged drivers to exercise caution during the ember months, warning that overspeeding and reckless driving remain leading causes of fatal road accidents.

Speaking along the Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway, FRSC Commander Nasir Mohammed stressed that while speed may feel exciting, it is far deadlier than many of the world’s diseases.
According to him:
Driving too fast increases the risk of fatal collisions.
Respecting speed limits and traffic signs can save countless lives.
Preventable accidents rise sharply during the ember months if drivers ignore safety rules.
Mohammed outlined several dangerous driving habits that must be avoided:
Overspeeding beyond posted limits
Careless overtaking of other vehicles
Night driving, which increases accident risks
Drunk driving, which impairs judgment and slows reaction time
He emphasized that drunk driving in particular remains a deadly factor in many crashes.
The FRSC Ogun Command reaffirmed its readiness to:
Intensify public education campaigns on road safety
Increase patrols and enforcement along highways
Work with communities to reduce reckless driving behavior
The goal, Mohammed said, is to curb the needless loss of lives and property caused by avoidable traffic accidents.
The ember months, September through December, are historically linked with higher road traffic accidents in Nigeria due to increased travel and risky driving. The FRSC continues to call for caution, discipline, and responsibility behind the wheel.
