ICPC Tracks N271bn Projects in Northern Nigeria, Recovers Cash and Assets

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) says it has tracked more than 1,440 government-funded projects across Northern Nigeria worth over N271 billion, recovering both cash and assets in the process.

ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu, SAN, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing in Kano as part of the agency’s constituency and executive project tracking campaign.

According to the ICPC:

  • North-West: 767 projects valued at N112 billion

  • North-East: 673 projects valued at N158 billion

Aliyu noted that the project tracking exercise is “yielding tangible results,” pointing to both monitoring and recoveries.

The anti-graft agency reported significant financial and asset recoveries:

  • North-West: $1.066 million in foreign currency, N7.269 billion in cash

  • North-EastN43.335 million recovered

  • Seized properties: 3 farmlands, 25 land plots, and 14 buildings in the North-West

“These figures are not just numbers; they represent our sustained efforts to curb corruption and enforce transparency in public service delivery,” Aliyu emphasized.

Beyond project tracking, the ICPC has also pursued enforcement actions:

  • 171 cases investigated (117 from North-West, 54 from North-East)

  • 8 convictions secured

  • 16 cases currently in court

Aliyu stressed that the Commission’s work goes beyond numbers, highlighting its mission to strengthen accountability and ensure that public resources serve the people.

The ICPC chairman acknowledged the critical role of the press in exposing abandoned or poorly executed projects:

  • “We commend journalists who have continued to shine a light on abandoned or poorly executed intervention projects. Your vigilance ensures that public resources reach the people they are mean
