Nigerian Army Kills Bandit Commander Babangida Kachala in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Operation ACCORD III, have killed Babangida Kachala, a notorious bandit commander and second-in-command to Kachala Shuaibu, leader of a gang operating around the Masalaci Boka and Ofere Forests in Kogi State.

The operation marks another major success in the fight against banditry in the state, coming just one week after the army neutralized another commander, Kachalla Balla, and five gang members.

According to Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 12 Brigade in Lokoja:

  • On September 11, 2025, troops ambushed a suspected bandit crossing point in Ofere Forest and the Ayetoro Gbede area.

  • Although the soldiers initially faced an ambush while returning to base, they repelled the attackers with superior firepower.

  • One bandit was eliminated, and several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Following clearance operations supported by air assets, troops recovered:

  • One fully loaded magazine

  • 31 mobile phones

  • A blood pressure machine

  • Packs of Tramadol tablets

  • Fetish charms

  • N16,000 cash

Bloodstains at the scene suggested that more bandits had been injured during the shootout.

Subsequent intelligence confirmed that Babangida Kachala, the deputy to Kachala Shuaibu, was among those hit. He later died from his injuries.

This follows earlier operations in which the military:

  • Killed Kachalla Balla and five associates during anti-bandit raids.

  • Ambushed a bandit courier on September 5, seizing weapons and supplies intended for hideouts near Tunga.

Lt. Abdullahi praised the soldiers’ bravery and emphasized that troops remain committed to sustained patrols and ambushes to completely root out criminal groups in Kogi.

He added that constant pressure keeps bandits on the defensive while boosting troop morale and effectiveness.

The Nigerian Army urged the public to support ongoing operations by providing timely and reliable intelligence to security agencies.
