Kaduna Nurses Hail Governor Uba Sani for Approving CONMESS and CONHESS
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has earned praise from the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) for introducing the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for health workers.
In a letter dated September 2, 2025, the state council of NANNM described the governor’s move as a landmark decisionthat has rekindled hope among nurses and midwives across the state.
The letter, signed by Comrade Ishaku Yakubu (State Chairman) and Comrade Christiana Bawa (State Secretary), described the policy as:
“A singular act of magnanimity and fairness that has rekindled the hope of many dedicated nurses in your administration and in the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.”
The council applauded Governor Sani’s commitment to workers’ welfare despite competing financial pressures, saying the move reflects “visionary leadership that boosts morale, improves productivity, and positions Kaduna State as a model of labour-friendly governance.”
The implementation of CONHESS and CONMESS comes at a time of strained state resources. Yet, prioritizing the welfare of health workers is expected to:
Strengthen Kaduna’s healthcare delivery system
Boost retention of skilled nurses and midwives
Improve patient outcomes across the state
In return, the nurses and midwives pledged unwavering dedication and professional excellence in service of the state, calling their commitment a “small contribution” to the governor’s transformative health sector agenda.
