President Tinubu to Commission 6,000MT Lithium Plant in Nasarawa
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to inaugurate a newly completed 6,000-metric-ton lithium processing plantin Nasarawa State, according to Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Speaking to State House correspondents in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with the president, Sule confirmed that the facility, built by a Chinese investor, is ready for official unveiling.
“Mr. President has assured us that upon his return from his short vacation, he will come to Nasarawa to commission the project. This plant represents another milestone in our efforts to unlock the economic potential of our solid minerals sector,” Sule said.
Governor Sule recalled that the state’s lithium sector began attracting significant investment after the discovery of high-quality reserves.
In 2024, a 3,000MT capacity processing plant was commissioned in Nasarawa Local Government Area.
The success of that project boosted investor confidence, leading to the completion of the new 6,000MT facility.
“Another group of investors, impressed by both the quality and commercial quantity of lithium in Nasarawa, have successfully completed the 6,000MT facility,” Sule explained.
Lithium is one of the most in-demand minerals globally, serving as a critical component in:
Rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles (EVs)
Renewable energy storage systems
Consumer electronics
By processing lithium locally, Nigeria aims to:
Reduce the export of raw minerals
Establish stronger local value chains
Support the industrialization of the solid minerals sector
The new plant is expected to:
Create jobs in Nasarawa State
Stimulate local economic growth
Strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global lithium supply chain, especially amid rising demand for renewable energy and electric cars
