Atiku Abubakar Slams Tinubu Govt Over Adamawa Attack, Says Security Should Match Revenue Drive
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for failing to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity with the same intensity it applies to revenue collection. His remarks followed a deadly insurgent attack on Wagga Mongono community, Madagali Local Government Area, Adamawa State, on Tuesday.

According to Atiku, the attackers:
Burned homes, shops, and a church
Killed at least four people
Injured several residents
The incident, he said, is another grim reminder of Nigeria’s fragile security landscape, where communities remain exposed to violent attacks and mass displacement.
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, the 2023 PDP presidential candidate accused the government of misplaced priorities:
“Our people are certainly tired of the government’s empty claims of improvements in security. Nigerians would love to see this government exert pressure on insecurity much as they do on revenue generation.”
He added that celebrating revenue targets while ignoring the safety of the workforce that generates such income is “tragic and unacceptable.”
Key Quotes
“We cannot continue to lose our productive population to sundry criminalities and yet make bogus claims about reaching revenue targets.”
“The tragedy in Wagga Mongono illustrates that the situation is far from being under control.”
“As someone from Adamawa, this incident feels deeply personal.”
Atiku’s comments reflect broader frustrations among Nigerians who argue that economic growth cannot be sustained without security. While the Tinubu government has been praised for aggressive revenue reforms, critics say it has not matched that energy in tackling insurgency, terrorism, and banditry.
