Sokoto Govt Suspends Six Secondary School Principals Over Misconduct

The Sokoto State Government has suspended six secondary school principals over alleged misconduct, including the unauthorized collection of fees for junior secondary school results.

The action was announced on Friday by Ibrahim Iya, spokesperson of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

The suspended principals are from:

  • Nana Girls Secondary School

  • Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Giginya Memorial College

  • GDSS Gagi

  • GDSS Mana

  • GDSS Silame

According to the ministry:

  • Some principals were found guilty of illegally collecting fees.

  • Others were sanctioned for alleged insubordination.

The ministry emphasized that such practices undermine transparency in the education system and will not be tolerated.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, approved the suspensions and set up a five-member panel to investigate the allegations.

The panel is chaired by Prof. Mustapha Namakka Tukur and includes representatives from:

  • The Ministry’s Quality Assurance Department

  • The Teachers’ Service Board (TSB)

  • The State Arabic and Islamic Education Board (AIEB)

  • The Ministry’s Planning Department

The suspended principals have been directed to hand over to their Vice Principals (Administration) immediately.

The ministry stated that the move demonstrates its commitment to:

  • Accountability in public schools

  • Transparency in administration

  • Discipline among education managers

Officials reassured the public that the investigation will be thorough and fair, with appropriate action taken against anyone found guilty.
