Nigerian Army to Introduce New Uniforms for Officers and Soldiers
The Nigerian Army has announced plans to roll out new uniforms for all officers and personnel, part of a broader welfare and modernization drive aimed at boosting morale and operational readiness.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, disclosed this during a visit to Godwin Ally Barracks in Ogoja, Cross River State, on Wednesday.
Oluyede explained that the initiative falls under the Army’s “Soldiers First” campaign, designed to:
Improve troop morale
Standardize operational readiness
Ensure all personnel receive essential supplies alongside the new uniforms
He emphasized that equipping soldiers properly remains a top priority for the Army’s leadership.
Following the visit, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, issued a statement highlighting other welfare measures:
Schools in Army barracks across Nigeria will be redesigned to deliver quality education for soldiers’ children.
Renovations are underway at Godwin Ally Barracks, addressing deteriorating facilities.
The Army has increased Ration Cash Allowance, giving commanders more capacity to feed soldiers adequately.
While inspecting troops under the 82 Division’s Area of Responsibility, the COAS urged soldiers to:
Maintain professionalism and discipline despite difficult operational demands
Cooperate with other security agencies and host communities to sustain peace and stability
Stay committed to their duty of defending Nigeria, even under challenging conditions
Oluyede personally thanked soldiers for their sacrifices and reassured them of continued government support.
