Tinubu Orders Military Upgrade After Borno Attack
Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed the government’s sorrow, describing the killings as a “deep loss to the state and the nation.”

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots. These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served,” Shettima said in a statement released by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha.
Governor Zulum also visited the affected community on Saturday to comfort grieving families and reassure residents that they were not forgotten.
To strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, President Tinubu approved the following measures:
Acquisition of more drones and advanced surveillance tools
A comprehensive review of current security operations
Stronger collaboration between security agencies
Consideration of localized security units to tackle area-specific threats
Renewed discussions on creating state police forces
The vice president emphasized that the federal government would continue to stand with states facing insecurity, particularly Borno, while also offering prayers for victims.
The latest assault took place in Darajamal, a community in Bama Local Government Area, where Boko Haram militants ambushed soldiers and civilians. The attack left multiple fatalities, sparking nationwide grief and renewed calls for stronger counter-terrorism strategies.
In a follow-up statement, Shettima reassured citizens that the government remains committed to justice for the victims and to sustaining efforts that will eventually bring an end to terrorism.
