Nigerian Senate Postpones Plenary Resumption to October 7, 2025
The Nigerian Senate has shifted its planned plenary resumption from September 23 to October 7, 2025, extending its annual recess by two more weeks.

In an internal memo signed by the Chief of Staff and addressed to Senate President Chinedu Akubueze, senators were officially notified of the new date.
The memo read:
“This is to respectfully inform Distinguished Senators that the resumption of plenary sitting of the Senate, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September, 2025, has been shifted to Tuesday, 7th October, 2025.
Any inconvenience this short notice may cause is deeply regretted. Distinguished Senators are kindly invited to note the postponement and adjust their schedules accordingly.
Thank you for your kind understanding, and God bless.”
The announcement confirms that the upper legislative chamber’s recess has been prolonged by two weeks, pushing back parliamentary activities that were expected to resume this month.
While no specific reasons were given for the extension, the decision will likely delay debates on pressing national issues awaiting Senate consideration.
