14,000 Seek Admission Into University of Ibadan, Fewer Than 5,000 Slots Available

The University of Ibadan (UI) has confirmed that at least 14,000 applicants have applied to study various undergraduate programs for the 2025–2026 academic session.

However, the institution can only admit fewer than 5,000 students, highlighting the intense competition for admission into Nigeria’s premier university.

The disclosure came as the university commenced its Post-Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) on Monday.

Leading other key officials to monitor the exercise, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration, Professor Peter Olapegba, assured that the process would be conducted transparently and fairly.

With nearly three applicants vying for every available slot, the university’s admission process remains one of the most competitive in Nigeria.

Despite the huge demand, UI continues to emphasize merit-based selection while ensuring that its limited resources are effectively managed to deliver quality education.
