Wike Promises to Build Ten New Schools in Abuja’s Rural Areas
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to build ten new schools in rural areas across Abuja, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving education access in underserved communities.

Wike made the announcement on Monday during his monthly media briefing in Abuja.
“I promise ten schools,” he said. “As I leave here, I will tell the mandate secretary to set up the scheme. It will be in the rural areas.”
The announcement comes in response to concerns that infrastructure development in the FCT, such as roads and housing, has taken priority over social services like education and healthcare.
Wike acknowledged these concerns but maintained that not all sectors can be transformed at once.
“It is not feasible to develop every sector in less than two years,” he said, referring to the administration’s strategic planning and phased development model.
The plan to focus on rural communities highlights a deliberate shift toward inclusive development, ensuring children outside the urban center of Abuja have improved access to basic education.
Details about the locations, budget, and construction timeline for the proposed schools are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
