Army Chief Oluyede Reaffirms Commitment to Soldiers’ Welfare
Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, has reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing the well-being of officers and uniform personnel nationwide.

Speaking at the end of a three-day operational tour of the Army’s 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Oluyede emphasized that troop welfare remains his top priority under his leadership.
Oluyede explained that his tour was designed to engage with troops, interact with stakeholders in the Niger Delta, and assess the operational readiness of formations. The visit also allowed him to directly observe the challenges soldiers face on duty.
“I want to examine the level of my soldiers’ welfare, particularly because I am very particular about the well-being of my soldiers and their families. With the support of the Federal Government, I promise to make life better for them,” he said.
He stressed that maintaining soldier morale is key to sustaining operational effectiveness across the country.
During the tour, Oluyede commissioned multiple infrastructure projects aimed at improving living and working conditions for troops, including:
The new 6 Division Administration Building
Headquarters 6 Division Extension
Python Harmony House
Guard Room for 6 Division
Two blocks of Corporal Below Quarters
Renovated 10-Family Corporal Below Quarters
Renovated 29 Battalion Quarter Guard
A Filling Station
Additional facilities at Elele Barracks
Oluyede affirmed that the Nigerian Army will continue to build on its operational gains and expand support systems for troops on the frontline.
“This road map is not just about operations but about ensuring our soldiers and their families live better lives while serving the nation,” he concluded.
