Governor Otti Warns Against Fraudulent Leaders in Abia Town Unions
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has charged community development unions to ensure credible leadership within their towns and across Nigeria.

Speaking on Wednesday while hosting members of the Abia State Association of Igbo Town Unions (ASAITU) led by President General George Mgbeorurukwe, Otti lamented that some communities still allow individuals of questionable character to occupy sensitive leadership positions.
“We don’t want thieves. We don’t want drug dealers, and we don’t want 419 people as leaders of town unions,” he said.
The governor stressed that leaders should be individuals of integrity, warning that dishonest leadership only breeds corruption and crime at the community level.
According to Otti, when a town union leader is corrupt or involved in drugs, it sets a damaging example for the youth and makes law enforcement difficult, as such leaders would often try to cover up wrongdoing.
He emphasized that his administration keeps close track of union leadership and called on ASAITU to return to their communities and ensure credible individuals emerge as leaders, people the citizens can be proud of.
During the meeting, Governor Otti approved ASAITU’s request for a parcel of land to build its office in the state. He urged the unions to provide intelligence and reliable information to government and security agencies in order to tackle crime, especially in rural communities.
