Sowore Slams Ex-Army Chief Buratai Over Call for New Lockdown

Yusuf Tukur Buratai, the former Chief of Army Staff, has come under fire from human rights campaigner Omoyele Sowore for calling for yet another lockdown in the nation.

Buratai, in an interview with Channels Television, argued that a lockdown would help Nigeria confront terrorism, abductions, and banditry more effectively.

Reacting on Facebook, Sowore blasted the proposal, recalling that Buratai oversaw the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, during which the #EndSARS protests culminated in the Lekki Toll Gate massacre.

“The bloody #EndSARS massacre was Buratai’s only achievement during the 2020 lockdown,” Sowore wrote.

He further criticized the current Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, for recently suggesting “Kung-fu self-defense” as an option for Nigerians amid worsening insecurity.

“This same man is shamelessly calling for another COVID-style lockdown, while the current Chief of Defence Staff absurdly proposes ‘Kung-fu self-defense’ as a solution to insecurity.

This is the calibre of airheads who have ruined Nigeria, men who respond to real crises with outright nonsense,” Sowore said.
