Shehu Sani Criticizes Governors for Doing Little Amid Nigeria’s Economic Hardship
Former senator Shehu Sani has accused state governors of failing to take adequate action to ease the suffering of Nigerians amid worsening economic hardship.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sani suggested that while President Bola Tinubu is taking the brunt of public criticism for the country’s economic challenges, governors appear unbothered and continue to enjoy steady revenue inflows.
“The subsidy was removed. The people are bearing the brunt. The President is receiving the bashing. The Governors are receiving the alerts,” Sani wrote.
The former lawmaker noted that the president is absorbing most of the criticism over the policy shift, even though state governments are also beneficiaries of the increased revenue from the subsidy removal.
His remarks echo growing calls for state-level interventions, including targeted subsidies, social welfare programs, and infrastructure spending, to cushion the impact of economic reforms on ordinary Nigerians.
