Kano Hisbah to Sponsor Weddings of Repentant Thugs

The Kano State Hisbah Board has unveiled plans to support the weddings of repentant thugs who have renounced violence and surrendered to the authorities.

This initiative was announced by Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Commander-General of Hisbah, after more than 1,000 youths gave up crime and pledged to live responsible lives.

“This programme is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s initiative to support youths who have turned away from crime and want to live a decent life,” Sheikh Daurawa explained, while urging the youths to ensure their remorse is genuine.

Speaking at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Governor Yusuf, represented by Information and Internal Affairs Commissioner Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, explained that the weddings form only part of a larger rehabilitation process.

According to him, the youths will undergo screening by the police and NDLEA to verify their sincerity. They will also receive vocational training, start-up funding, and educational opportunities for those seeking further studies.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, described the programme as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to reducing crime while giving youths a second chance at life.

Some of the reformed youths, including Kamilu and Buzu Mai Kidan Gangi, publicly expressed gratitude to the government and other stakeholders for helping them make the decision to change.
