Benue Assembly Denies Gov. Alia’s Involvement in Speaker Dajoh’s Resignation
The Benue State House of Assembly has dismissed suggestions that Governor Hyacinth Alia influenced the resignation of Speaker Aondona Dajoh, insisting that lawmakers remain independent and cannot be coerced.

Assembly spokesperson Elias Audu clarified the matter on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
According to Audu, the resignation was Dajoh’s personal decision, unrelated to the governor.
“If the governor had an interest, whatever it is, it is not within the knowledge of the Assembly. The Speaker was doing his job, and after some time, maybe because of certain decisions, he thanked the people for their support, and now he said it is time to go,” Audu explained.
He stressed that Benue lawmakers are “independent-minded” and not subject to political coercion.
On Sunday, Speaker Aondona Dajoh submitted a resignation letter, citing good faith and the best interests of the stateas his reasons for stepping down.
While political undertones have been speculated, Audu insisted there is no crisis in the Assembly, reiterating that Dajoh’s exit was voluntary and principled.
