Katsina Deploys 8 More APCs, Now Best Equipped State in Northwest

Katsina State has reinforced its security operations with the deployment of eight additional armored personnel carriers (APCs), raising the state’s total fleet to 43, the largest in Nigeria’s northwest region.

The announcement was made by Acting Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe after a State Security Council meeting, where he underscored the importance of collaboration between security forces and local communities in combating kidnappings and banditry.

“The battle against banditry is not over until it is won,” Jobe declared. “Our troops cannot operate alone; they need maximum cooperation from communities, particularly in sharing timely intelligence.”

He described a recent attack in Unguwar Mantau, Malumfashi LGA, as “barbaric,” where armed men abducted women, children, and nursing mothers during mosque prayers. Thanks to local resistance, 76 victims were rescued.

With APCs, surveillance and combat gear, and joint support from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Police, DSS, vigilantes, hunters, and the state Community Watch Corps, Katsina is currently the best-equipped state in the northwest to counter insecurity, according to Jobe.

He added that the state continues to seek additional federal government cooperation due to the difficult terrain exploited by bandits. The Chief of Army Staff is also expected to visit the state soon for a security review.

Alhaji Muazu Danmusa, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, urged residents of frontline areas to work closely with security agencies.

“The cooperation of local communities is crucial in defeating banditry,” Danmusa emphasized.
