Abuja–Lagos $4 Billion Superhighway to Begin Construction Soon

Construction of the much-anticipated 470-kilometer Abuja–Lagos Superhighway is set to begin soon, according to AEC Unity Network Limited.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, Dr. Kenny Martins, chairman of the company, described the $4 billion project as a historic infrastructure milestone that will provide Nigerians with a faster, safer, and more reliable alternative to the current road system.

Dr. Martins explained that the superhighway is designed for vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour, cutting down significantly on journey time between the Federal Capital Territory and Lagos.

“This is more than just a road. The Abuja–Lagos Superhighway will be a transformational project that changes the way people and goods move between Abuja and Lagos. It will also open up rural communities, create jobs, and unlock new economic opportunities across the states it traverses,” Martins said.

The superhighway will pass through Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, and the Federal Capital Territory. It will also feature additional spurs linking Ondo State and Baro Port in Niger State.

Beyond easing congestion on existing lanes, the road is expected to lower the cost and stress of transporting people and goods, enhancing both trade and logistics across Nigeria.

Martins confirmed that the project is being executed in partnership with the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), and the Federal Ministry of Works, under the leadership of Minister Dave Umahi.

“This road is not just for today but for future generations. By the grace of God, very soon Nigerians will be driving on this superhighway,” Martins assured.
