Sowore was taken into custody on Thursday after voluntarily honoring an invitation to the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja.

In a Friday morning post on X (formerly Twitter), Obi expressed deep concern over the arrest, questioning why law enforcement would detain a citizen who came forward willingly.

“To detain a citizen who came of his own accord, without the public disclosure of clear, lawful charges, is not only a miscarriage of justice but an abuse of state power,” Obi stated.

Obi noted the absence of any specific or convincing accusations against Sowore in the public domain, suggesting that the detention raises questions about the circumstances and intent behind it.

He warned that the police action could further undermine public trust in Nigeria’s law enforcement institutions if Sowore is not released promptly.

“Such conduct erodes public confidence in our security agencies,” Obi added, urging authorities to act in the interest of justice.

Sowore, known for his activism and strong advocacy for good governance, contested the 2019 presidential elections under the African Action Congress (AAC) and has faced multiple arrests in recent years over his political activities.
