Wike Launches New Phase of Water Projects in FCT

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has kicked off a fresh round of water project commissioning and flag-offs across Abuja.

According to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike began the new phase on Tuesday with the commissioning of the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.

The announcement comes just weeks after the minister concluded a 16-day commissioning exercise across the FCT.

“Today, we are commissioning the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council. Tomorrow, we will flag off the construction and expansion of water supply to our satellite towns, starting with Bwari Township in Bwari Area Council, and on Thursday, we will do the same for Karu town and its environs in Abuja Municipal Area Council,” the statement read.

The projects build on the Greater Abuja Water Service Project, which Wike completed on June 16. At the time, he disclosed that the FCT administration had secured new agreements to extend water supply to satellite settlements like Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu, following President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 state visit to China.

Wike assured residents that the new projects would be delivered on schedule, adding that procurement processes for the expansions are already nearing completion.
