NIMC Shares New Guidelines for Modifying Your NIN Online
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has released important instructions for Nigerians using its self-service modification portal to update their National Identification Number (NIN) records.

The guidance was issued on Thursday in a statement signed by NIMC spokesperson Kayode Adegoke.
The Commission emphasized that while the self-service portal was designed for convenience, it requires users to strictly follow specific technical rules to ensure account security and prevent access issues.
Key Guidelines for NIN Data Modification Online
If you're planning to modify your NIN record, here’s what you need to know:
Use One Browser and Device Only:
Your self-service account is tied to the exact browser and device you used during registration. You must use that same combination to access or modify your NIN.Switching Devices May Block Access:
Trying to log in with a different browser or device could result in failed access attempts.Avoid Clearing Cache:
If you reset or clear your browser’s cache, your account may be locked. If this happens, you'll need to go through an unlinking procedure to restore access.Unlock Attempts Are Limited:
Users are allowed only five (5) unlock requests. Once this limit is reached, no further unlock attempts will be accepted.
“These are some of the measures put in place to safeguard and protect the identity of users,” the Commission explained.
Follow Guidelines to Avoid Delays
NIMC urged all users to adhere to the technical requirements in order to avoid service disruptions, locked accounts, or delayed record changes.
“Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as the Commission continues to safeguard your data and improve service delivery,” the statement concluded.
