Niger State Increases Professors’ Retirement Age to 75
The Niger State House of Assembly has approved a bill extending the retirement age of professors in state-owned institutions from 70 to 75 years, while raising the retirement age of other academic staff from 65 to 70 years.

The decision followed the adoption of the Standing Committee on Education’s report, presented at Wednesday’s plenary by committee chairman Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris (Tafa constituency).
According to Idris, the move aligns with national standards and will help retain seasoned academic staff, thereby enhancing the quality of education in Niger State.
In the same sitting, lawmakers also passed the Niger State Diaspora Agency Bill, aimed at strengthening ties between the state and its diaspora community.
Presenting the committee’s report, Deputy Speaker Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda explained that the agency would play a critical role in boosting economic growth. It is expected to encourage investment, support trade, promote cultural exchange, and drive development initiatives across the state.
