Nigerian Woman Dies Days After UK University Admission
Tragedy has struck as Sylvia Obilor, a young Nigerian woman recently admitted to the University of Salford in Manchester, England, died just days after receiving her offer.

The Abia State University graduate reportedly suffered a seizure during a church service on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Despite efforts to save her, she passed away on Tuesday, August 12.
Sylvia had completed her mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in March and was preparing to relocate to the UK for her studies.
The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Aba, Abia State, confirmed her passing in a statement on August 13:
“It is with heavy hearts that we express our deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of Deacon Christian Obilor over the untimely death of their beloved daughter, Sylvia. The news of her passing has left us shocked, saddened, and in deep sorrow.”
The statement expressed prayers for the family’s comfort and strength, adding that Sylvia’s legacy should serve as an inspiration to all who knew her.
Friends have taken to Facebook to mourn her, sharing memories and tributes. Community members have described her as a bright young woman with great promise, whose life was cut short before she could fulfill her dreams abroad.
