Ex-Lawmaker Oghene Egoh Blasts Amaechi Over Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road Criticism
Former House of Representatives member Hon. Oghene Egoh has taken aim at ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi for dismissing the Lagos–Calabar coastal road project as a scam.

Amaechi, who once ran for president, reportedly said he would cancel the multi-billion-naira project if elected. But Egoh, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency and defected from the PDP to the APC in 2024, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that Amaechi’s comments were “offensive” and “morally hollow.”
Egoh accused the former minister of failing to deliver critical infrastructure in the Niger Delta during his tenure.
“Amaechi did not do enough for the South-South when he was Minister of Transportation. Instead, he focused on building a railway to the Niger Republic, neglecting urgent needs at home,” Egoh said.
Calling the Lagos–Calabar road a game-changing development, Egoh said it would:
Boost trade and regional connectivity
Strengthen ties between Lagos State and the South-South
Promote national integration and job creation
Despite Nigeria’s current economic hardship, Egoh praised President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, including the fuel subsidy removal, calling them “bold and decisive” with long-term benefits.
“Hunger in the land is a temporary challenge. Already, we are seeing a drop in the prices of rice and tomatoes. Other food items will follow. Farmers are being empowered to ensure food security,” he stated.
Egoh urged Nigerians to be patient and support the administration, claiming that “what previous governments could not achieve, President Tinubu is achieving.”
