Benue Youth Leaders Urge Military Support for Farmland Security

The Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, has received a detailed security report from the Benue Youth Congress (BYC), outlining the urgent threats facing communities and farmlands in the state.

The presentation took place on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Defense Headquarters in Abuja. The BYC delegation, led by President Hon. Anngu Orngu, included youth leaders from the Tiv, Idoma, Igede, and Etulo ethnic groups.

Protecting Nigeria’s “Food Basket”
The group stressed that Benue’s role as the nation’s food basket makes its security crucial to Nigeria’s food supply. They highlighted the dangers posed by insecurity to farms, livelihoods, and rural communities.

Hon. Orngu said:
“Benue is the Food Basket of the Nation, but without security, our farmlands, our communities, and our very future are at risk. We believe that involving our young people directly in security initiatives will not only improve safety but also inspire a new generation of peace-builders.”

Key Requests from the BYC:

  • Inclusion of youth in security operations.

  • Protection of farmlands and rural communities.

  • Extension of the Presidential Amnesty Program to troubled youths in the Sankera axis.

During the meeting, AVM Sayo Olatunde, Defense Chief of Policy and Plans, welcomed the delegation before they presented Gen. Musa with an Excellence in Leadership Award for his outstanding service to the Nigerian military.

Hon. Orngu described the interaction as a turning point for cooperation between the military and young leaders, expressing hope for renewed peace and development in Benue State.
