Tinubu Returns After Brazil and Japan Diplomatic Tour
President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after a two-week diplomatic trip that took him to Japan and Brazil, where Nigeria secured new international agreements.

According to his Senior Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s flight landed at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at exactly 1:30 a.m. on Thursday. He was received by top government officials upon arrival.
Key Highlights of the Trip
Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9): The president began his trip in Japan, where he attended TICAD9, focusing on Africa’s economic growth and strategic partnerships.
Strengthening Nigeria–Brazil Relations: After Japan, Tinubu traveled to Brazil to deepen ties between the two nations.
MoUs Signed: Nigeria and Brazil signed at least five Memorandums of Understanding covering:
Energy
Agriculture
Security
Trade relations
Technology cooperation
At exactly 12:57 p.m. (local time), the presidential jet departed Brasília International Airport Air Force Base. The Brazilian ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, and the secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, were present to see him off.
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, alongside other senior officials, also accompanied the president during this diplomatic engagement.
International partnerships remain a critical part of Nigeria’s growth strategy. The new agreements with Brazil open opportunities for investment in energy and agriculture, while security cooperation could help address regional challenges.
For many observers, these deals represent a step toward diversifying Nigeria’s global alliances beyond its traditional partners.
