FERMA Explains Delays in Ekiti Road Repairs, Blames Rainy Season and Funding

The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in Ekiti State has explained the key obstacles slowing down road repairs and maintenance across the state.

According to Engr. Simon Adeniran Adeniyi, FERMA’s State Director, the rainy season remains the biggest challenge, preventing significant progress on road projects.

Adeniyi clarified that while FERMA is responsible for maintaining existing federal roads, the Federal Ministry of Works oversees reconstruction and major rehabilitation projects.

He assured residents that the federal government is fully committed to improving Ekiti’s road network, even though weather conditions and financial constraints have delayed progress.

The FERMA Director listed several federal highways in Ekiti currently under construction or scheduled for repairs, including:

  • Ado–Aramoko–Itawure Road

  • Ado–Ikere–Akure Road

  • Ifaki–Ikole–Omuo Road

He urged the public to remain patient, noting that construction will intensify after the rainy season.

Beyond weather, Adeniyi pointed out that contractors are also struggling to secure adequate financing, which has slowed projects further.

He emphasized that FERMA enforces accountability by ensuring contractors are not paid until work is completed, stressing the agency’s commitment to transparency and quality delivery.

For residents frustrated by the poor state of roads, Adeniyi’s remarks were meant as reassurance. He insisted that the federal government’s commitment will soon translate into smoother, safer roads and better infrastructure across Ekiti State.
