Nigerian Air Force Establishes New Forward Operating Base in Akwa Ibom to Boost South-South Security
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has officially established a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Akwa Ibom State, as part of efforts to reinforce its operations in the South-South region and boost security along the Gulf of Guinea corridor.

The base, located on land generously allocated by the Akwa Ibom State Government, was announced during a courtesy visit by Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, to Governor Umo Eno in Uyo.
The development was also confirmed in a Friday statement issued by the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that the FOB would significantly bolster marine security, improve force projectionin the region, and complement existing efforts to protect both lives and critical infrastructure.
“The base will further assure the safety and security of persons and property and foster Akwa Ibom as a destination for investment and tourism,” he said.
According to the Air Chief, the new base is not just a military asset, but also a catalyst for economic growth, tourism, and investor confidence in the state and the broader South-South zone.
In his response, Governor Umo Eno welcomed the initiative, describing it as a reflection of Akwa Ibom’s growing strategic role in Nigeria’s evolving security framework.
He pledged continued collaboration with the Air Force and reiterated that security remains central to sustainable development.
“We believe that a safe and secure society is the bedrock of development, and we are glad to partner with the NAF to achieve that objective,” Eno said.
